Match Poker Online’s Unique Tournaments

In Match Poker Online™, Tournaments function a bit differently to regular poker tournaments.

The most important difference is that chips are not the be-all-and-end-all. You can win the most chips but still not win the tournament; similarly, you can lose all your chips and still place better than others, perhaps even win!

In Match Poker Tournaments, your Event Points (EP) are the most important part of the game. They function exactly the same as Rating Points (RP) except they only apply to the tournament and are disregarded afterwards. Event Points, like Rating Points, are awarded for playing skilfully, not just for getting lucky. To learn more about Rating Points, click here!

Our two Tournaments are Scrap and Elimination:

Elimination Sit ‘n’ Go

  • Starts with 8 players at a single table.
  • Lasts 32 hands.
  • Players are progressively eliminated – based on who has the fewest Event Points after a set interval of hands.
  • The last remaining player wins.
  • Top four players are awarded a fixed amount of Rating Points*.

For players who are finding it difficult to obtain Rating Points (RP) in Rated Play, this may indicate that the ranking algorithm has discerned their True Rank within our Ranking System. Players whose Rating Points have stagnated this way will need to demonstrate that they have improved their skill in order to continue to earn RP in Rated Play… OR they can rely on their skill in tournaments (this is explained in more detail in How to Gain Rating Points. Since Match Poker Online tournaments offer a fixed reward of RP for the top 4 players, it will be possible to continue to earn RP even above your True Rank.

*This special opportunity to increase your RP by winning tournaments only lasts until you reach 18,000 RP – the final Silver Ranking Category. Only those skilled enough to have proven themselves to be Elite Players will be able to progress to the upper echelons of the Ranking System.

Future Tournaments

We are excited to reveal that we are already working on further tournaments, including Multi-Table (MTT) variations of both Scrap and Elimination – with greater prizes for the winners – as well as our brand-new format, Skirmish!

Skirmish

Skirmish is a very avant-garde format of poker designed for Match Poker Online.

Players do not play at tables with each other, in fact they will be playing alone on a table with seven non-human players, or ‘bots‘.

All players sit at identical tables, and all play the same hand at the same time – it’s like all competitors are playing as the same person in parallel universes!

All tables will play exactly the same hand. Bots are programmed to take appropriate actions based on their cards, and to respond to the human player appropriately. Note that not all bots will play with the same level of skill.

This is the ultimate test of skill – with all the variables controlled for. The person who walks away with the most Event Points is the person who played those hands with the greatest skill! There is no room for doubt.
